DESCRIPTION:PLASTIC FANTASTIC is an international online Hackathon & acceleration program\, where experts of diverse backgrounds from across Europe will hack together the circle of plastic. Starting in April 2024 with an international Bootcamp and Hackathon\, this program will run for 6 months.  \n\n\n\nDuring this period of time\, environmental & business experts\, water & environmental activists\, and impact entrepreneurs will work collectively to further develop solutions regarding the detection\, monitoring\, collection\, valorisation and prevention as well as reuse of plastic litter. The 3 most impactful solutions will be further supported by a wide and diverse community of the Impact Hub Athens experts.  \n\n\n\nYou can apply until March 28.

DESCRIPTION:This workshop takes place over the course of two days. The program includes a welcome reception (evening of May 12)\, three sessions of invited presentations\, a poster session\, a discussion panel and a site visit to local aquaculture and algae processing enterprises. Optional is a visit to Kuressaare Castle. Our project manager Efthalia Arvaniti will be speaking at the session on “Environmental accounting (Ecosystem Services & Life Cycle Analysis) – challenge of applying to seaweed”. \n\n\n\nThe Seawheat Workshop will include the following sessions: \n\n\n\n\nSession 1 – Algae and Carbon Capture – Political and regulatory setting\n\n\n\nSession 2 – Quantifying emission capture – challenges and valorisation\n\n\n\nSession 3 – Environmental accounting (Eco-System Services & LifeCycle Analysis) –challenge of applying to seaweed.

SUMMARY:SeaWheat Training School - Emissions\, Capture\, Utilisation: Methodologies and Challenges for Ulva
DESCRIPTION:The program includes three days of practical exercises and lectures. The detailed program will be provided to registered participants in due time. \n\n\n\nThe practical exercises will be focused on quantifying the mass balances of carbon and nitrogen in a system where three different strains of Ulva are grown in nutrient-rich process water from a local land-based Recirculated Aquaculture System (RAS). Methods will include PAM fluorometry\, photosynthesis by oxygen production\, production of Particulate\, dissolved\, and volatile organic carbon (DOC\, DIC\, and VOC)\, and N concentrations in water and seaweed. The methods will be discussed and evaluated\, and the data outcome used in joint peer-reviewed publication. \n\n\n\nThe deadline for application is Monday\, February 18th\, 2024.

DESCRIPTION:We have a dream that seaweed will be known to everybody as the healthy part of their everyday life. Therefore we are bringing together knowledge and experience to this international “Seaweed for Health” conference for research and business within nutraceutical\, bioactive and pharmaceutic compounds in seaweed\, and we hope that you will join us. \n\n\n\nSeaweeds are a worldwide incredibly rich source of nutrients and bioactives. At the “Seaweed for Health” conference we will present an interdiciplinary approach to discuss the health promoting properties of seaweed compounds and we will learn on the novel developments for functional ingredients that can be used for the formulation of food\, feed\, nutraceuticals\, cosmeceuticals and pharmaceuticals. Furthermore\, toxicological aspects and regulatory issues will be discussed\, as well as some barriers for the industrial exploitation and commercialization. \n\n\n\nIn order to favor exchange between academia and industry\, a small local industry exhibition will be held during the conference. \n\n\n\nThe conference will include a cooking show\, seaweed collection and a one-day tour along the Galician Coast.
