SUMMARY:Strong Winds\, Thriving Seas
DESCRIPTION:Reaching the EU’s offshore wind and grid ambitions should be viewed as an opportunity to create a new normal where biodiversity protection and restoration is pursued side-by-side with infrastructure deployment. But how do we turn these ambitions into tangible actions? \n\n\n\nThe Renewables Grid Initiative\, WindEurope\, and the Offshore Coalition for Energy and Nature (OCEaN) will address this question at our conference ‘Strong Winds\, Thriving Seas’ and warmly invite you to join us! Throughout the day\, we’ll spotlight leading experts working on a nature- and people-positive offshore energy transition and allow participants to explore a solutions-oriented fair\, hear priorities from the next generation of European decision makers\, and pose their own policy asks. All of this will be complemented by highlights from OCEaN’s work across European sea basins. Since 2020\, OCEaN’s diverse Members – representing wind developers\, transmission system operators\, and NGOs across two Coalitions in the Mediterranean and North and Baltic Seas – have been engaged in key dialogues to advance offshore wind and nature objectives in harmony.

SUMMARY:Webinar: Neues Projekt ElbeXtreme

SUMMARY:Nutrient proposals for the new EU Circular Economy Act and the CAP
DESCRIPTION:The President of the European Commission\, Ursula von der Leyen\, plans an ambitious EU Circular Economy Act\, to follow the second Circular Economy Action Plan (March 2020)\, replacing this Commission document by a regulatory act. Ms von der Leyen’s mission letter for the new Commissioner for Environment\, Water Resilience and a Competitive Circular Economy\, Jessika Roswall\, specifies that the new Circular Economy Act should include measures to create market demand for secondary materials and a single market for waste\, especially for critical raw materials (phosphate rock is on the EU Critical Raw Material List since 2014\, confirmed in the EU Critical Raw Materials Act 2024). ESPP will develop proposals for nutrients in this expected new Act \n\n\n\nThe Common Agricultural Policy represents over 40% of the EU budget. The current CAP runs from 2023 to 2027. An interim evaluation report is expected in 2025. ESPP will develop proposals for integrating nutrient management (including the Green Deal and UNEP Biodiversity Convention 50% nutrient loss reduction objective) and nutrient recycling into the future CAP revision. \n\n\n\nTwo day meeting to discuss these two important policies and to develop proposals to input to the European Commission. 21-22 January 2025\, Brussels and online.

SUMMARY:Seagriculture EU 2025
DESCRIPTION:Seagriculture EU 2025 will gather top speakers\, who will share their know-how within seaweed for feed\, food\, offshore cultivation\, biorefinery of seaweed\, and much more. \n\n\n\nThe Seagriculture conference has built up a solid reputation as the leading conference for the seaweed industry\, the Seagriculture conference in Europe has been successfully organized since 2012. The 13th edition of this seaweed event took place in Tórshavn\, Faroe Islands with a record number of 224 delegates from 25 countries. \n\n\n\nSeaweed cultivation in Europe is showing promise in terms of growth\, however challenges in regulations\, cost\, and market viability could affect the pace of this growth in the future. \n\n\n\nThe Seagriculture conferences focus on addressing those challenges in the seaweed industry\, fostering collaboration among various stakeholders\, and emphasizing the importance of sustainable practices\, innovation\, research\, and regulatory adaptability for long-term success. \n\n\n\nThe demand for edible seaweeds (or marine algae) is increasing in Europe. Seaweed (macroalgae) grows in a variety of forms and colours in the ocean as well as in freshwater environments. Its biochemical composition and properties make seaweed a valuable material\, and its range of applications is growing as current R&D technologies are refined and new discoveries are made. They include food products for humans\, animal feed\, cosmetics\, bio-based chemicals for various industries\, fertilisers\, biofuel\, and high-quality building insulation\, among others.
