DESCRIPTION:PLASTIC FANTASTIC is an international online Hackathon & acceleration program\, where experts of diverse backgrounds from across Europe will hack together the circle of plastic. Starting in April 2024 with an international Bootcamp and Hackathon\, this program will run for 6 months.  \n\n\n\nDuring this period of time\, environmental & business experts\, water & environmental activists\, and impact entrepreneurs will work collectively to further develop solutions regarding the detection\, monitoring\, collection\, valorisation and prevention as well as reuse of plastic litter. The 3 most impactful solutions will be further supported by a wide and diverse community of the Impact Hub Athens experts.  \n\n\n\nYou can apply until March 28.

SUMMARY:2024 Ocean Decade Conference
DESCRIPTION:Three years after the start of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030)\, a global conference will bring together the Ocean Decade community and partners to celebrate achievements and set joint priorities for the future of the Decade. \n\n\n\nHosted by Spain and co-organized with UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC/UNESCO)\, the 2024 UN Ocean Decade Conference will take place on 10-12 April 2024 in the coastal city of Barcelona. \n\n\n\nIt will be a 3-day\, in-person event co-led with a range of partners: Government of Catalonia and the Barcelona City Council through the Barcelona Capital Náutica Foundation\, and the Spanish National Ocean Decade Committee\, which is led by the Ministry of Science and Innovation through the Spanish Research Council (CSIC). \n\n\n\nMore details about the programme\, registration process and calls for proposals for satellite events are available on the conference website.

The application and cultivation of algae has many benefits ranging from increasing and restoring biodiversity for marina animals by providing habitats\, to their use in food and nutrition due to their rich volume of essential vitamins and minerals. As research and technology continue to advance\, the uses of algae are likely to expand further offering sustainable solutions to various global challenges. \n\n\n\nThe two-day event will bring together business executives\, industry leaders\, academics\, policymakers and stakeholders from the algae industry. The summit will provide a forum to exchange information\, discuss recent developments and examine possibilities as well as challenges currently facing the industry. The 12th European Algae Industry Summit will hold interactive sessions and talks by experts in the field to allow participants to gain valuable insights to the current state of the algae industry as well as collaborative efforts aimed at advancing the sector. The summit will allow for a range of networking opportunities\, allowing participants to connect and interact with likeminded professionals to discuss recent developments and examine possibilities with not just algae production and cultivation\, but the vast prospects for the application throughout different industry markets.

DESCRIPTION:The first day focuses on interaction between industry and academia\, while the second consists of an inter- and disciplinary academic exchange in three thematic tracks.  \n\n\n\nThere are two ways to join: \n\n\n\nA) as a researcher submitting an abstract and participating in the full program – the cost of the workshop both days is 100 Euro and paying your own travel to the venue (hotel 17.-18.4. is part of the event); \n\n\n\nor B) joining for day 1 from 12.00-18.00 which is open to everyone\, registration is necessary and covers the cost of 15 Euro for lunch and coffee. \n\n\n\nParticipating in the full program entails submitting an 1-page abstract (3000 characters incl. blanks) to the AU organiser Margrethe Balling Høstgaard\, margrethe.hostgaard@dca.au.dk\, latest the 1st of March 2024 (this does not hold for invited key note speakers on day 1).

DESCRIPTION:Following the success of the first BlueMissionBANOS Arena in Gothenburg\, Sweden last November\, we are pleased to announce that our next Blue Mission Arena 2 will be taking place at H2O 6 kvartāls event hall in Riga\, Latvia on 25-26 April 2024\, back-to-back with the 2024 Ministerial Meeting on the Baltic Sea Marine Environment. \n\n\n\nThis Mission Arena will focus on regional actors in Estonia\, Latvia\, Lithuania\, Finland and East Sweden. The key stakeholders in this Arena will be Mission Ocean-relevant actors who will have the opportunity to engage with current and future actions in this region. Over the course of two days\, we want to inspire you to showcase progress\, discuss open needs\, and plan the next steps to transform this region’s blue economy to be more carbon-neutral\, environmentally friendly\, and circular. All participants will then have the chance to vote on the Roadmap towards Mission Ocean and Water’s success for this region at the final Mission Assembly. \n\n\n\nIn this Arena\, we will not only focus on the Baltic Sea as such but also cover ‘Blue on Land’\, i.e.\, lakes\, rivers and wastewater. Topics include fishery & aquaculture\, shipping and ports\, nutrients and pollution leakage to the ocean and waters\, waterborne transport\, nature protection and restoration\, sustainable products\, and all actions required to transform these sectors. \n\n\n\nDiscussions will be framed across 15 specific workshop themes. When you register\, please indicate whether you want to make an active contribution to one of them.
