#BalticBlueBioAlliance idea pitch in Gothenburg: four innovators to receive mentorship

Four blue biotechnology innovators are going to receive mentorship by partners of the Baltic Blue Biotechnology Alliance to advance their product development idea. This is the result of the #BalticBlueBioAlliance idea pitch held in Gothenburg, Sweden on 4 April 2017.

Six candidates had submitted their blue biotechnology product or service idea in response to the Alliance’s call for ideas and subsequently pitched this idea to an international expert panel with representatives from academia, businesses and cluster organisations during the meeting in Gothenburg.

Against the criteria set in this call, the expert panel selected these four ideas for receiving mentorship:

  • Movable Biogas Factory (Ritva Nilivaara-Koskela and Kirsi Hyry, Movable Biogas Innovation Team, Finland) - download presentation,
  • Organic Seaweed Sunshield (Mette Albrechtsen, Organic Seaweed – Ebeltoft Vig Aps, Denmark) – download presentation,
  • Biogas production using biomass derived from Baltic microalgae (Marek Klin, Institute of Oceanography, University of Gdańsk, Poland) – download presentation,
  • Environmental monitoring of aquaculture sites implemented online at sea (Sara Lidén, EHP Environment Ltd., Finland) – download presentation.

The meeting in Gothenburg was hosted by the University of Gothenburg and the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH). Apart from the idea pitch, it also encompassed an internal meeting of the Baltic Blue Biotechnology Alliance project partners as well as a study trip to the University of Gothenburg’s marine research station in Tjärnö and a seaweed cultivation site in the Kosterhavet Marine National Park.

The #BalticBlueBioAlliance idea pitch held in Gothenburg in April 2017 was the second event of this kind after the successful #BalticBlueBioAlliance Matchmaking event in Helsinki last October. The next opportunity to submit ideas and pitch them to an international expert panel will be during the autumn of 2017. So stay tuned for announcements of the next submission deadline!
