InnoAquaTech at 4th Fish Congress in Sopot

The 4th Fish Congress took place in Sopot, Poland on the 30th and 31st March. Under the official patronage of the Polish Minister of Maritime Economy and Eurofish International, it is the annual fisheries industry management conference. The National Marine Fisheries Research Institute (NMFRI) together with the West Pomeranian University of Technology were this year’s programme partners.

This year the conference hosted plenary sessions with high-ranking polish officials and parallel panel sessions on the development of the aquaculture industry, including successful case studies. The event was attended by more than 300 delegates and featured 50 lectures in the plenary and thematic sessions.

The first day focused on the future of fish processing and aquaculture industries. Apart from two thematic sessions on processing technology & food law and aquaculture development, the plenary session featured ministerial speeches and gave an overview of the current market for aquaculture.

On the second day, participants went on to discuss the challenges and opportunities of the salmon & trout market and the opportunities to best make use of Baltic herring, sprat and flounder. The plenary session was dedicated to domestic market development and how to promote fish consumption.

Among others, Dr.Eng. Joanna Szlinder-Richert (NMFRI), discussed the health quality of fish popular on the Polish market, and of Dr.Eng. Bogusław Pawlikowski (NMFRI), elaborated on new directions and possibilities of small pelagic fish processing, especially of Baltic sprat. Dr. Marcin Rakowski presented interesting findings on Polish consumers’ preferences on pelagic fish. In the aquaculture session, Małgorzata Kieliszewska (NMFRI) presented the InnoAquaTech project and its goals.

For the InnoAquaTech partners the congress proved to be an ideal platform to present the project for a large audience.
