ISLA BONITA

Islands are among the first places in Europe to feel the effects of pollution, biodiversity loss and climate change on their seas and freshwater. Isla Bonita supports island authorities to restore their ocean and waters and to turn solutions that work locally into approaches other islands can adopt.

The project runs nine Living Labs, each led by an island authority, where researchers, businesses and local communities co-develop and test restoration solutions, many of them nature-based, together with a roadmap for reaching the Mission’s objectives. A permanent Mission Ocean Accelerator Hub, based at PLOCAN and hosted on BlueActionMatch, will help islands fund their roadmaps and make nature-based solutions more attractive to investors.
