BIOSCALES

BIOSCALES helps bioeconomy innovation ecosystems balance competing sustainability goals, working with five regional case studies across Europe.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Optimising Bioeconomy Innovation Ecosystems for Substitution, Circularity, and Longevity to Decouple Sustainability Trade-offs

Decisions about producing and using bio-based resources involve trade-offs between environmental, economic and social goals. BIOSCALES brings together 17 organisations from seven countries to help bioeconomy innovation ecosystems navigate these trade-offs, using three complementary pathways: substitution, circularity and longevity. Working with stakeholders in five case studies in Austria, the Netherlands, Spain, Romania and Sweden, the project co-designs, co-creates and co-validates sustainability-optimised target states, and will offer a self-assessment tool, online learning modules and exploitation resources for other regions. The project is coordinated by the University of Graz, and SUBMARINER represents the Swedish case study together with the University of Gothenburg.
