Multi-layer governance performance of marine policies
The management of oceans, seas, and coasts is decentralised across multiple institutional layers and policy areas, drawing from past experiences.
The EU-funded BlueGreen Governance project aims to develop innovative land-sea governance schemes that integrate institutions, policy sectors, scientific evidence, and citizen participation. Proactively responding to changing physical conditions, the project utilises e-governance tools and indigenous knowledge to influence land and sea usage. Its objectives include promoting enhanced decision-making, social engagement, and digital innovation. The project also employs e-governance tools to establish effective science-policy-society interfaces, facilitating improved communication between science-policy, science-society, and society-policy.
Operating in eight cases, the project will implement innovative governance schemes across Europe’s regions and sea basins while providing capacity building.
