Harnessing Sargassum inundation biomass: Biobased products versus energy valorisation

The study shows that Sargassum can be valorised either into polysaccharides or biomethane, but improving energy yields comes at the expense of alginate and fucoidan quality, and overall viability is highly sensitive to yields and prices.

SUBMARINER coordinated AlgaeProBANOS project contributed through the techno-economic analysis, comparing these pathways and supporting the assessment of alginate extraction concepts from Sargassum.
