The purpose of this report is to present the results and effects that have been achieved with the project Development of Bornholm blue mussel farming. The project started in July 2021 and was completed in April 2022. The project was a feasibility study, with the purpose of establishing a local pilot farm/s with mussels in the future, to investigate the potential of recycling essential nutrients that have accumulated in the Baltic Sea. Our motivation to carry out this project lies in a desire to combine sustainable food production and the improvement of the marine environment in the Baltic Sea with growth in a local community that has great ambitions regarding the climate and environmental challenges. The project is a preliminary study and the planning of where pilot mussel farms can be placed, which farm technologies should be tested, and how it should be operated and monitored focusing on the environmental effects.
